It's a slow-paced shmup\/TD (shooter defense?) Between engagements, it requires some strategic thought. Although, I can see that the game might get repetitive (haven't played very long -- hopefully I'm wrong). What brought me to the review so quickly is the lack of information on game mechanics. A simple list of key commands would go a long way here. And, there is no information on the two currencies that I am collecting, saving and spending. The tutorial is broken -- I won the first tut battle automatically (just an after-action report). In the first actual battle, my shield came up automatically for a few moments. In the second battle, it did not. Maybe there's a key I'm supposed to be pressing? No info on that. I think in the first battle, I pressed the the '2' key for the shield. Something launched from my ship when I hit the '1' key. The shield also rotated by itself, maybe to cover the strongest enemy? Can I rotate the shield myself? Also, when I kill an opponent, there is 'space loot' floating around. This loot is either cash or gear (I think... donno what this economy is). I fly over the loot to collect it, but that doesn't happen. There is no key to collect. I think I collect it automatically, but the after-action report indicates that some loot was lost. Was I at fault for not collecting that lost loot?I realize the game is new. But there are a few basics that still need to be covered.Good luck Devs! Thanks.EDIT: Just saw the Spacegame Junkie review. Apparenlty, Brain was able to get throught the tut after three attempts. His video also explained the Drones (1) and Shields (3). In all the newness, I didn't notice the nice UI, top left.. Absolutely fantastic. Want to feel like you're commanding a badass capital ship from the bridge, all guns blazing away at the evil aliens? Combined with a totally fun upgrade path and some strategic thinking, this game is well worth your time. I really hope the developer sells DLCs or finds the time to add content or a sequel.Such great gameplay, awesome price, great controls -- give it a shot, you won't regret the fun!. very engaging tactical spaceship game. Great feel for a heavy metal slugfest.. The game is AWESOME!The concept of a lone battlecruiser hunted by a ruthless invading alien species is pretty cool. It's not for everyone. It's NOT an arcade game; It's a slow, tactical approach to (space) naval combat. As it's actually 2D, it's enjoyable and comparable to naval combat in reality.99% of the big "OHSHIT" moments are the player's fault on not planning aproach to several enemies, like ignoring that two unknown dots in the radar on the left while going for one more run vs that cruiser, IE... There's plenty of time to plan everything, but being reckless will lead to unescapable "OHSHIT" moments.. Impossible on level 3. Nothing take perm damage and when you retreat all the ships have respawned. Ive tried and tried on level 3 and though I can kill fleets and starships they all upgrade to fast to where it stalls and ends. Its easy on other difficulties but impossible on level 3. needs more balance.Overall good for its price though.. Great tactical top-down real-time space combat. Reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica, with your lone Battlecruiser fighting against the odds through a horde of enemies. Careful positioning, weapon selection and target prioritisation will let you overcome large numbers of enemy ships, but overconfidence or a few bad decisions will see you surrounded and destroyed. Each battle lasts from around 5 to 20 minutes, so it's a a fun game to pick up for a quick blast. The consequences of winning or retreating from each battle are reflected on the strategic map of the solar system, and your long-term goal is to whittle down the enemies strength from battle to battle, until you can eventually destroy their home base. Resources you gather during battles allow you to gradually upgrade your Battlecruiser, improving engines, shields and armour and discovering new weapons. If your Battlecruiser is destroyed, you are taken back to the strategic map before the battle began, to make a new choice of battle or try the same fight again. So the consequences of losing are not too frustrating.I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The combat feels satisfying, responsive and meaningful, the strategic layer and three difficulty levels give longevity, and the enemy AI and well-balanced rate of progression keeps you coming back. Highly recommended.. The game deserves credit for fun top-down Big Ship space combat that feels very fun. The battlecruiser's autocannons in particular are very reminiscent of nBSG. Just for that, I recommend it.However, the game's appeal is hobbled by its serious lack of balancing. The game is almost comically stingy in handing out the two resources you need to stay competitive against the enemy. Without being competitive, you can't do the missions to take out the enemy's convoys and mining starbases, and without taking them out, the enemy forces get wildly buffed while you stagnate. The sense of progression of for your ship's abilities is simply too spare for the campaign to be satisfying.. Simple, good lil game!. quot;Your armor is down and the alarm sirens of you Cruiser are wailing....you fly sweaty around the sector searching the last ship somewhere and hope that your shields will protect you long enough to kill the enemy ship and win this sector....or maybe a tactical withdrawal....but now there is only one enemy left....if you lose, you lose all your precious scrap-metal! Or invest the metal into repairs....but you need it for better weapons in the shop between the sectors. Damn, what to do now!"These were my thoughts in this well balanced little arcade-gem with a tactical layer. It´s a little like Rebel Galaxy in 2D, but with a more simpler approach. There is a "arena" and you have to get out alive. The withdrawal is a primary strategy element, that you have to use a lot as a guerilla-commander. Also you can win some sectors with a nice minefield in combination with long range torpedos. But no only the mechanics work well, the graphics are nice, the music is "deep" and the little light-effects of the explosions are nicely polished. I enjoyed this game a lot.
